Yeah, but I just discovered where Andrei's coming from. That comment's very misleading - it actually _means_ it's registered as a G_TYPE_POINTER, because it doesn't have the copy/free elements of a G_TYPE_BOXED:

GType       g_boxed_type_register_static    (const gchar *name,
                                            GBoxedCopyFunc boxed_copy,
                                            GBoxedFreeFunc boxed_free);
GType       g_pointer_type_register_static  (const gchar *name);

So even though it all works perfectly I get: (bug.php:3608): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_boxed_copy: assertion `G_TYPE_IS_BOXED (boxed_type)' failed object(GtkCTreeNode)#4 (0) { } because glib tries to perform a copy on it. :-( - Steph
