Hi Anant,

AFAIK, most build scripts do not try and detect the OS per se, but rather check for the availability and behaviour of all the libraries and functions it needs to compile successfully. Okay, but what I'm going by is the long list of case statements in aclocal.m4, each of which names an OS.
I will try and get a FreeBSD box up and running to see if I can help you out. Cool. Thanks.
In any case, release versions of PHP-GTK 2 will always contain the gen_* files; only developers (and those who compile from CVS HEAD) would ever need to generate them. Please do try to compile the PHP-GTK 2 alpha release sources on FreeBSD and let us know! Oh, that's no problem. In fact, I've even compiled a few times with the cvs source, but only by borrowing the gen_*.* files from my Linux system. What I'm trying to do is figure out why the gen_*.* files aren't generated under FreeBSD. My current thinking is that it has something to do with no detecting the OS (or environment) properly.-Ron T. -- Ron Tarrant Blog:<A HREF="http://www.writingup.com/blog/phpgtk2">PHP-Gtk2</A>
