Problem: No character shows up on first call to GtkEntry::get_chars()This is expected behaviour:
$entry->connect("key-press-event", "preProcess");You're using the key-press-event signal which means that preProcess is actually called before the character is even inserted into the entry. Change the signal to "changed" and all is well. - Anant
