I'm not real sure other than the fact that unless you either have a new install of PHP from
source or this particular patch, PHP-GTK2 fails on Ubuntu. Try it without a source install on
Ubuntu's default installation of PHP and you'll get an error - then apply the patch and it
just magically works.
Would adding the one-liner screw it up for folks on platforms other than Ubuntu and (possibly)
Debian, or is it possible to add it in with no harm? It's a couple years old it looks like, the
article's info is outdated but the patch did happen to fix that Ubuntu-PHP pothole I ran into.
Until further notice I will revise the README.
