Hi Nate,
I just ran into the same problem trying to install this morning on Fedora 2. The problem is that generator/scheme.php is trying to load a file that doesn't exist. Because the file doesn't exist a php error message gets written into the ext/gtk+/gen_gtk.c file. That's what causes all sorts of syntax errors.
It looks like the CVS version has been updated so you may want to try that. But here is what I did:
Edit generator/scheme.php: line 110
change from:
$this->parse_tree = parse(fopen($defs_file, 'r'));
to:
$this->parse_tree = parse(@fopen($defs_file, 'r'));
(optionally and 'the right way' is to do a check like if (is_readable($defs_file)) ...)
Then I did a make clean.
Then I had to remove ext/gtk+/gen_gtk.c
Then start over with ./buildconf etc...
My steps may not have been the most efficient way to go about it but it worked for me.
