With all respect to Frank , most windows users like thier extensions! What has confuddled and alienated many potential new (win32) php-gtk users is simply running the apps in the first place. How many potential new users downloaded php-gtk and never even managed to get the samples working ? I suspect many more than you think ... I know lots of them ;) How many more got the samples working then realised thier local apache/php installation no longer worked ? (a different issue but anyway) I hate messing with anybody elses registry , but file association is not hard with NSIS-like installers & even win32_std etc can mess with the registry in a 'pure' PHP installer. I like .phpw + I still like the phpx:// protocol for win32 which nobody seemed interested in & which I would advocate further if I were not so unsure of the security concerns... with such you could run a php-gtk app from the command prompt , a shortcut , windows explorer , IE address bar etc even <a href="phpx://my_app">my_app</a> , sadly so can any web page ~ Regardless I think there should be some direction from somewhere on this matter if only as guidelines for those of us who make installers , I suspect there will be many more such systems for PHP-GTK2 and a multitude of differing approaches will be counter-productive for PHP-GTK. Most of all , I think ignoring the issue ( I understand & accept that not all think it IS an issue ) and leaving it as simple .php files is a mistake.
