err, sort of got it, using ob_start & this ridiculous string seems to do the job (although it does leave me with a nasty command window) //have not a clue how & why, it just works// ob_start(`c:\phpdev\gtk\php.exe -q -c c:\phpdev\gtk\php.ini -f c:\phpdev\gtk\htaccess.php > NUL`); but it does mess up the GTK window beneath it until the new one is closed, so is there any way I can mimimise a GTK window ? Hi again, this GTK malarkey is a love-hate thing isn't it...not sure whether to kiss it or kill it :) - OK if I had a clue about OOP etc it may help somewhat. I have 2 perfectly good apps, which I want to be able to run separately, I also however want to call one from the other, I have achieved this by various dodgy methods including exec()'ing batch files etc. Anyway, with the 2 apps that actually do anything useful, when I call one the other 'freezes' , which is ok, but when I close the second window, the first 'is not responding...' etc and I have to close the window and tell MS that no ,I don't want to send an error report. The problem boils down to (I think) that exec/system/backticks/passthru etc all expect a return value and sit there waiting and eventually give up, now if this were a CGI script on a webserver I could flush the output to /dev/null , but I am not and this is windows anyway, so does anyone know how I could overcome my problem I know this is not technically a GTK issue, but I though that someone here may have come up against this in their travels Regards, Simon Wheeler. firepages. PS I am sticking a PHP-GTK package into phpdev5 - anyone have any code snippets that they would like to contribute to the package? only have to be simple things (prefer simple!)
