Hi Frank,
Thanx for the pointer about the php_win.exe source!! Just to clarify though, using popen() does spawn a new php.exe process. If you then shutdown the original php.exe using End Process from Task Manager it kills the original terminal while the new window keeps on chuggin' happily away. Thus, if you can determine the PID of the original interpreter process it's logical to assume that you can kill that terminal without affecting the newly spawned process? Does this make sense and follow?

Hi All, Killing the terminal window from the PHP script will kill the php application it self. when PHP is executed from a terminal window it is running in the same process. You need to spawn a new process in order to get rid of the terminal window. Have a look at the source code for php_win.exe. It is included in the cvs for php-gtk - Frank
