This is with rc files?
I've memories of having the same problem Ron and Madeleine are describing. Perhaps it's platform-specific, has anyone looked into that possibility?

Ron Tarrant wrote:Yeah, I read that, too. But in practise, when I've tried passing a colour with numbers like (255, 255, 255) it always comes up black, which leads me to believe that 65535 is full intensity. When I pass a colour as (FFFFFF) I get an error saying I can't pass a string. I'd dig up the example for you, but since I twigged on using XcmsColor notation, I threw all my failed attempts away.It comes up black because there is no way to determine if you want to use 8 bits or 16 bits. It goes with 16 bits to give you the widest range of colors. When using a string make sure you have the # in there. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. Have you tried the examples posted earlier in this thread?
