this can look stupid but just to be sure, can you verify which path is used when you call this line. try this: echo getcwd()."\n"; There's chance that when you use the link the current directory wasn't the one of you main.php file so you perhaps will have to set the path with chdir(); or to load your file like this: Gtk::rc::parse(dirname(__file__.
