Hi Fernando, bz2 is a core (but shared) extension in PHP 5.2, as are ftp (built-in for win32), sqlite (bundled but shared) and pspell (third-party library, shared)). You could use iconv (built-in) for that conversion, but sure, mbstring's mandatory if you need to deal with mulitbyte charsets. You didn't mention any there though. As I wrote earlier, you don't need to worry that anything's going to disappear. If it isn't made available in/alongside the distro, it'll be available via Frank's site in a compatible format. All I'm concerned about at present is establishing the sanest things to make available in the distro and which - if any - to build into PHP. For PHP-GTK/Windows users, the win32-only printer extension is pretty much mandatory (it wouldn't be the same situation if this binary were intended for the Web), so it would make sense to build the module into PHP for them. Building in sqlite makes less sense because the extension's outdated. pdo_sqlite, which is more up to date, would allow you to run the exact same code using a mysql database with just a dsn change, so long as you're not doing anything complicated - and let's face it, most of us aren't. - Steph ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fernando Correa da Conceição" <conceicao.fernando@gmail.com> To: "Steph Fox" <steph@zend.com> Cc: <theflyingdutchman@tiscalinet.it>; <php-gtk-general@lists.php.net> Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2007 10:40 PM Subject: Re: [PHP-GTK] Calling all Windows users - which PHP extensions do you use?

Hi André, Ah, but you never mentioned exif :) Yes ext/exif requires mbstring, but ext/gd doesn't require exif... although built-in gd might be sensible, it'd be pretty crazy to build in mbstring (large library that not everybody uses) IMHO. All three are core extensions in PHP 5.2.0 anyway, so they'll all be made available from the word 'go', either built-in or as loadable DLLs. - Steph
mbstring is usefull and i need it. Simple use: to convert from iso-8859-1 to utf-8 and vice-versa(and works for any other encoding). I use it on linux currently, as I do not use my app on windows, but others do. Example: my php-gtk2 is configured to use utf-8 in php.ini, or any other charset for someone else. If I need read a file from disk and show it in a textview, I need convert it to utf-8 (or any other encoding that php-gtk is using). It is usefull if you need suport for any other encoding diferent from your os. And my sugestions: sqlite, bzip (or gzip), ftp, pspell I know, will be hard to find a set of extension that make all of us happy.
