Hi! There have been some queries on this list from people trying to install php 4, mysql and apache. The errors are of the following kind and occur while trying to make apache after 'make' and 'make install' php 4: /usr/local/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.a (my_uncompress.o) In function my_uncompress ... undefined reference to uncompress In function my_compress ... undefined reference to compress I've found that a solution is to reconfigure php 4 and make it again (before doing this make sure to 'rm config.cache' and 'make clean') but with zlib support. In my case the configure line contained, among other things, ./configure --with-mysql=path/to/mysql --with-apache=/path/to/httpd/ --with-zlib=/usr/local/etc/php4.0.4/ext/zlib Then 'make', 'make install', go on to apache, the usual stuff. Hope this helps somebody because it took me a couple of days to figure this out, and that too thanks to some hints on the mailing lists. Philip George
