That made my output from config more sensible. One thing I'm still puzzled by in my configure output: checking for libjpeg (needed by gd-1.8+)... yes checking for jpeg_read_header in -ljpeg... yes checking for gdImageCreateFromJpeg in -lgd... no checking for libXpm (needed by gd-1.8+)... no checking for gdImageCreateFromXpm in -lgd... yes checking whether to include ttf support... yes It seems odd that it can't find gdImageCreateFromJpeg. Is all the stuff in ext/gd left over from one of my earlier failed build attempts? In general, I'm not clear what the ext tree is for, or how to interact with it in adding extensions to PHP. I looked for some documentation, but probably didn't look in the right place.
