I'm not going to get into the whole "it can be done in userland why do we need it in
core" debate, because honestly that's a silly discussion to have when you don't have
any planned implementation to discuss the merits of.
The only reason I wanted to respond was your last line, quoted above.
Being "around" when something happens means zero as far as credibility or knowledge.
The captain of the titanic was "around" when it sank.
