Yes, a "most recent N news articles" with a "view older news" link would make
sense, and give room for some other sections like prominent links to main documentation sections,
bug tracker, etc.
This would be a good incremental improvement within the current look and feel, and is more likely to
be completed successfully than several months of root-and-branch redesign.
