Rui, thanks for your efforts on this. And yes, it would be really good if you could encourage some people to write more tests for this feature. We were completely lost in trying to maintain compatibility with this because of the lack of tests and documentation.
Now we have something to go on and hopefully the re2c guys can dig in and help you finalize this. It was the last major issue holding up 5.3.
