You don't need Karma to play with it. Simply check it out and set up a
test system first. Then try tweaking things and test your change with
every possible browser and make sure your change works. Then send any
suggested (and thoroughly tested) patches to the list. You will find that
a lot of stuff is the way it is for a reason.
