I suggest that somebody contacts the mirror admin and tell them to
upgrade the mirrors by us helping them and not forwarding them to other
lists.
I also suggest the same has to be done with htdig (if we stick with it)
and that all mirrors should have it.
Same goes for the stats.
BUT with our help!
Here is my story:
The problem I had with php was that I believed that compiling it with
Sybase support (freetds) was a bitch.
I had failed before and I got stuck with Arvin's rpms that worked great
and has support for Sybase of course.
Arvin unfortunately didn't release new versions of php (i think the last
one was 4.2.2)
Finally when I decided to upgrade my system to RH9 (cause Redhat said
they are stopping the upgrades on older releases (I was on 7.1)) I
checked out apachetoolbox..
I can't say that it worked the way I wanted it.
What I did I used apachetoolbox to compile JUST apache (without php).
The script generated was the following:
go.sh:
export CFLAGS=""
export LIBS=""
export INCLUDES=""
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache \
--enable-suexec \
--suexec-caller=nobody \
--enable-module=so \
--enable-module=access \
--disable-module=auth_db \
--disable-module=digest \
--enable-module=imap \
--enable-module=mime \
--enable-module=setenvif \
--disable-module=usertrack \
--enable-module=auth \
--disable-module=cern_meta \
--disable-module=expires \
--enable-module=log_config \
--disable-module=proxy \
--disable-module=vhost_alias \
--disable-module=auth_anon \
--enable-module=cgi \
--disable-module=headers \
--disable-module=log_referer \
--disable-module=rewrite \
--enable-module=userdir \
--enable-module=asis \
--enable-module=autoindex \
--disable-module=example \
--disable-module=log_agent \
--enable-module=negotiation \
--enable-module=status \
--enable-module=actions \
--disable-module=auth_dbm \
--enable-module=dir \
--enable-module=include \
--disable-module=mime_magic \
--disable-module=unique_id \
--enable-module=alias \
--disable-module=auth_digest \
--enable-module=env \
--disable-module=info \
--disable-module=mmap_static \
--disable-module=speling \
Finally I extracted php 4.3.1 on my own and compiled it with:
./configure --with-mysql --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
--with-sybase-ct=/usr/local/freetds/ --with-gd
--with-zlib-dir=/usr/include/ --disable-cli --with-imap --with-kerberos
--with-imap-ssl
And for those interested for Sybase I used the following:
./configure --with-tdsver=7.0 --enable-msdblib --with-unixodbc
--prefix=/usr/local/freetds/
Be sure to compile freetds and edit your freetds.conf file before
compiling php.
Yes everything I need is built in and works great.
Sure people might need more than just mysql and sybase but we should
offer them the help they might need so that they would upgrade.
Maybe they are just afraid they will break something (just like I did).
At least I have the confidence now when 4.3.2 comes out that I can make
it work by compiling it with the above parameters and always stay up to
date.
