Hi Bert!
First of all thank you for taking time to provide your suggestions.
Forums. I'd really like to see a forum where php users could discuss different issues on different forums. I know there is a news-server, but I think it would be much more accessible and so much more php-style if there were a web forum. I think this would really add to the usability of the php website! As you say, yes we have several mailing lists, as well as a news sever. And this is why we are not going to have forums. That would probably put a high load on our server we cannot handle. It would also very hard to manage to have the forum be up to date on all one hundred mirror sites. There are plenty of forums out there with PHP support. If someone would take the time to collect a comprehensive list of the heavy ones, I would be happy to add some links to the support page to those... If other webmasters have no objections.
Summaries. On www.perl.com there is a weekly summary of the development of perl6. One guy wraps up the discussions on the perl6 development mailing lists and posts them on the front page of perl.com every week. I know there is something similar for php if you dig quite deeply on zend.com, but I think it would be so much more of an instigation for people, a way to keep people committed and attracted and involved with php development if a weekly summary would also be posted on php.net every week, even lay people like myself would be interested (I'm not a c programmer.)Yes, there is a summary on zend.com. Nearly every start of the week that summary appears in the news list on zend.com so you don't need to dig too deep. It's in the news there every week. Thanks for your suggestions, Goba [one webmaster@php.net]
