Hi Matthew!
I recently became interested in mirroring php.net unofficially, and only the English version at that. I and a few other developers intend to maintain this mirror for our own personal use, mainly for the English manual. Anyway, I wanted to make sure this was okay (I read the guidelines and saw nothing that specifically disapproves of unofficial mirroring). Our rysnc server is currently open for anonymous clients, so we are not against unofficial mirroring. Most of these unofficial mirrors are on intranets or for groups and bigger companies. We do encourage people to only mirror what is needed...
The command I used was: rsync -avzC --timeout=600 --delete --delete-after --include='manual/en/' --include='manual/en/**' --exclude='manual/**' --exclude='distributions/**' rsync.php.net::phpweb /www/phpI have just added a suggestion to exclude the 'extra' folder too, which also contains distributions data (building related supplemental files). If you exclude the distributions dir, then you will surely live without the extra folder...
I don't use rsync too often, but I take it this should be run by a cron job? If so, I'd only run it once a day so as not to put any unnecessary strain on your rsync server. I would like to setup an official mirror, but I won't bother you all about that since there's already a few in the US.Yes, we already have some mirrors in the US, so we are not accepting more at this time.
