I would really like to see a downloadable version of the PHP
documentation that includes the user comments. User comments are one of
the most valuable parts of the documentation in my opinion. I have
found it very helpful to read user comments about a function or feature
of PHP that give a more explicit example of use or offer additional
information or warnings than the manual did alone.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gabor. I was hoping to avoid using the CHMs, but I might consider using them if this is the case. Is there any file format difference between CHM and ECHM? Would the ECHM work with Chmox for MOSX?
The special tricks used in the xchm make it work only on Windows. If you are willing to take some time to grab a local manual version with user notes, you need to consider setting up livedocs.
