I hope you can help me or pass this on to someone who might be able to help. I am currently attempting to get php approved for use within my organization. The problem is that I work for the Air Force and they are concerned with the "open source" aspect of it, as well as support and sustainability, ie. "what happens if the sites this stuff come from just decides to shut down one day?"
What happens when one of your suppliers of closed-source code shuts down? You are completely out of luck. With open source code like PHP, you have the source code and thus have full control, so that is actually a big advantage to the open source model. The other part of it is that as a pure open source project, we are not going to go bankrupt and disappear that way. The only way the project would disappear would be if everyone lost interest, and there are there are way too many people involved today for that to be realistic. -Rasmus
