it's not the underlying status -- it's making sure that the bug
database has useful cross-references. making it easier to find the
tidbits of knowledge means a more useful php and less overhead for the
developers, yes?

According to the Advanced Search page, there's a status setting
"Duplicate". Maybe duplicate bug reports should be marked as duplicates
instead of bogus?

suggest "master" bug for "bogus" duplicates, or perhaps a way to xref
bugs directly into an editable faq entry, so that non-bug knowledge can
be collected. perfect example: newer php releases won't link against
mysql binary distributions on solaris -- probably not a bug in either
mysql or php (still investigating) but the problem is frustrating and
documentation is very sparse.

Description:
------------
flagging a bug as "bogus" should prompt the maintainer for a duplicate
bug id, to make sure it gets into the ticket (thereby enhancing the
search results).
i added a comment to manual/en/install.unix.solaris.php; the list of
required software at the top of that page should probably mention the
fully-GNU-toolchain requirement, as it's not currently explicitly
mentioned anywhere (and was never necessary for php before 5.1).
Reproduce code:
---------------
i opened 36020 (bogus) because 35492 (also bogus) did not usefully
refer to 35496 (not returned by search results).
36020 resulted in 35492 being updated to mention 35496, so at least
some good came out of it... if i had found 35496 when searching (or had
it suggested as a possible duplicate), i would have gotten an answer
sooner and not bothered the maintainers. (i owe someone a beer :)
