nah, I don't think it worth it.. (old manuals are useless anyway)
Gentoo should rely only on its mirrors for such revision tracking *or*
create a php-manual-cvs package, for example.

Description:
------------
Hi,
To ease integration in distributions, if would be nice if PHP manual
tarballs (http://www.php.net/distributions/manual/) had versions (date
they were generated), and were archived for some time...
I'm creating an ebuild (Gentoo Linux) with the
"php_manual_<lang>.tar.gz" files (but having versions for the other
files -single HTML file and CHM versions- would probably be useful
too).
Something like "php_manual_<lang>_YYYYMMDD.tar.gz" would do fine...
If space is a problem, a new versioned archive every month will do
perfectly... (while the non-versioned version would always be the
lastest possible, as it is now). If possible, they should be kept for a
few semesters, like one or two years...
Thanks in advance.
