Hi Martin, I have committed a possible solution to our system, which uses IE conditional comments. We will see if it works nicely when the changes come live on the site. Gabor On Fri, 6 Oct 2006, Martin Kunkel wrote:
Hi Gabor, thank you for your key hint. It lead me to a solution that works for me and allows me to continue using IE5.5 when I like to.

Studying the explanation of IE's bug there, the solution seemed obvious. If the problem is actually IE5.5's interpreting a print stylesheet when it shouldn't, all I have to do is override the rulesets from the print stylesheet in my local browser stylesheet. That way, the site remains fully accessible for IE5.5 users. Appended to this message, there's my preliminary browser stylesheet. Preliminary, because I'm still working on getting the links in the header (downloads, documentation, faq, ...) to show again. So far, they remain invisible, but even so it's not that much of a loss for me.

Upgrade Internet Explorer? No, I definitely won't use the "Bugs Collection" IE6, and IE7 doesn't work under Win2k any more. So 5.5 is the latest version I'll keep using. Instead, I use Opera occasionally.
You are the only one who reported this issue so far, although we have this new php.net layout out for weeks now.
Can't be that many weeks, can it? I think I used the PHP online manual only about ten days ago, and it still worked then. But I may misjudge the elapsed time ... Thank you, folks! Martin --- 8< -- my user.css ---- /* individual fixes for php.net */
