Dear Sirs, I would like to ask you a question concerning the PHP licence. My friend would like to make a web application written in PHP. He would like do distribute that application on a commercial licence without the possibility of furthur distribution. From what i understand in the PHP licence he would have to modify the source code of the languege? Is my understanding of that matter correct? The other question is if is it obligatory to have an open source code if the source code is not modified?
I don't quite understand the question... If the application is written in the PHP language you have nothing to worry about. You can distribute it under any license you want, closed source or open source does not matter. If you are talking about writing a PHP extension (like the ones you see on http://pecl.php.net) you are free to license and distribute it in any way you like. If however you want to alter the language itself (the C source code) there is one restriction: The product can _not_ have "PHP" in its name. It however does not need to be distributed as open source and you can pick almost any license you want. -Hannes
best regards, R. ps. Sorry for the spelling mistakes.
