note 68657 added to function.getimagesize

I have issues trying to use getimagesize. The problem is that the images I am checking are not mine, so if someone deletes an image, I get a warning. I tried to use fopen first, to check if the file exist, but then I get fopen warnings. Is there a way to check if a file exists first, before passing the URL to getimagesize?
