As an update to my previous post,
After further investigations I discovered my solution doesn't solve the Segmentation fault.
What it does is increase the maximum possible size of the subject sent to preg_replace before it
causes a Segmentation fault. My subject string was ~450kB in size and I guess the maximum subject
size was somewhere bellow 450kB before I updated Php and PCRE. After the update the maximum subject
size was increased to ~1MB.
I did some testing on the WAMP machine and discovered it has the same limitations (remember it uses
PCRE 6.7).
Until this is fixed my solution to the problem will be to split the subject into 1MB pieces and test
them individually.
