Note Submitter: Using a hosting company
----
It can sometimes be easier to use a hosting company than do all the installation/configuration on
your own machine -- especially when you are trying to learn something new. The complicatons of the
hardware and/or OS can sometimes get in the way of learning.
Several hosting companies offer MySQL / PHP plans that are ridiculously cheap. I signed up for such
a plan at CrystalTech for the princely sum of $2.95 a month.
UltraEdit has a neat FTP connector built into its editor. You can get Toad for MySql for free, use
the MySQL, or pay a student license for MySQLyog.
You'll be connecting (most likely) to MySql over TCP/IP. So what difference does it make where
you are running -- hoepfully it's running -- your code.
