"Interestingly" isset() returns false for null - even though a variable containing null
has actually been set to a null value.
I think I'm right in saying that this actually makes it impossible to distinguish if a variable
exists and is null (can safely be used) or is undefined (causes a notice if used with anything other
than isset). This is probably something you will never need to know - but I think it is illogical
and causes confusion about nulls
