Hi all,

are all talking about SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I had a problem with it too. It was a pain to
make it working. If you run into a trouble, follow their advices and maybe these three:
try port 1221
play with the SQL Server Configuration Manager
play with the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration
there are many options which may affect this working or not. All you ge is a general message:
Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist. Unable to connect: SQL Server does
not exist or network access denied. (severity 9)
I finaly maked it work with:
$host = 'MACHINENAME'; // see? without \SQLEXPRESS
$port = 1221;
php.ini: mssql.secure_connection = On
ntwdblib.dll: version = 2000.80.194.0
after playing with the configuration tools (enable TCP, and some...). I can't say if playing
with cliconfg has any effect.
HTH, Robert.
