@LaurenceJ44 The :2) part of the error is saying the problem is on line 2, not that session_start must be on line 1. session_start can be on line 500 so long as this is before outputting to the browser. You were setting your DOCTYPE which is outputting markup to the browser and then trying to call session_start.
