Note Submitter: Sylpher ---- @LaurenceJ44 The :2) part of the error is saying the problem is on line 2, not that session_start must be on line 1. session_start can be on line 500 so long as this is before outputting to the browser. You were setting your DOCTYPE which is outputting markup to the browser and then trying to call session_start. Moving it above was the right action to take, but I wanted to make sure it was clear that it being on line 1 had nothing to do with it so long as it was above your markup.
