However you have a syntax error in your statement: $result = mysql_query("set names 'utf8'";); It should be: $result = mysql_query("set names 'utf8';"); If the colon is really necessary i don't know but it works.. If admins feels like this is an unnecessary post maybe at least fix the error in the original one..
