Actually, vameza, the script below echos nothing, because the echo statement has the expression
$a(5), whereas you meant a(5). This demonstrates another feature of PHP, variable functions, but you
didn't actually mean to do that.
To be helpful to the average joe, actually run your examples and then cut and paste the code.
