Note that paths like /foo/bar/../somefolder/someimage.gif won't work on older versions of PHP,
until somewhere between 5.1.6 and 5.4.6
That is, it doesn't work in 5.1.6, it does in 5.4.6. I have no idea at which version exactly
this bug was fixed.
On older versions you'll have to resolve the above path to /foo/somefolder/someimage.gif before
feeding it to imagecreatefromgif().
