let's not forget that you can...
function isValidUrl($url) {
if (fopen($url))
return true;
else
return false;
}
...although you may want to check and see what scheme the $url is using before opening it ...because
fopen() also works with the "file://" sheme as well.
But, what an excellent way to validate an URL.
