Okay, so here are the errors/issues I ran into after installing PHP on an NT Workstation box, that
can either run Apache or PWS (Latest Version);
* CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The
headers it did return are:
PHP: Unable to parse configuration file.
When I ran PHP in conjuction with Apache, I left the php3.ini file sitting in the C:\php3 directory.
It worked just fine, though I'm not sure why. Not so with NT running PWS. The php3.ini has
to be in the OS root directory and for NT Workstation that is "C:\WINNT".
*Fatal Error
Fatal error: Unable to open C:\Program in - on line 0
No input file specified.
The infamous "No input file specified" error message. If you're running Apache on a
Windows Platform, then you don't have to set a "doc_root". Just put a semicolon in
front of it in the "php3.ini".
I've found that I absolutely have to set a "doc_root" value while running PWS in NT
Workstation. The "doc_root" value should be a directory where you know you'll be
setting up sub-directories that contain PHP documents in. I set mine up like this "doc_root =
C:\home_hmtl\". When I want to allow people to create PHP documents, I set up their home in
the document root "C:\home_html", and then create an alias to the directory in the PWS
adminstration tool.
Oh . . . for those of you that are unsure of manually editing your Registry, or using the suggested
tool . . . Use the php_iis_reg.inf file. Just right click on the file, and in the context menu you
should see an "Install" option. Select the Intall option, and then for good measure . . .
restart your NT box, so that you're sure changes will take effect.
These were my trial and tribulations. I hope the information helps someone.
