is_dir only worked, when I gave the name of the directory AND the path of the directory:
$dir_handle = opendir($path);
while ($fp = readdir($dir_handle)) {
if (is_dir($fp)) {echo "dir found!";} // worked only sometimes,
if (is_dir($path.$fp)) {echo "dir found!";} // always works.
}
