Stripslashes doesn't seem to be symmetric to addslashes. Addslashes adds slashes to
',",/, 0x0
Stripslashes removes slashes from those and more (everything preceded by a \??)!
Example:
echo stripslashes( 'header( \"_newurl_\n\" );' );
Should give header( "_newurl_\n" ); but it gives header( "_newurl_n" ); instead!
