note 26137 rejected from function.mssql-connect by betz

I have following code:

$hCon = mssql_connect ( $ip,$user, $password );
if (!$hCon)
{
// redirection
}
?>
Purpose is to redirect connection when it fails. But when I simulate the database is down by
changing the user or password I get following warning:
Warning: Sybase error: Login failed for user 'user'. (severity 14) in
/home/passenger/www/testconnect.php on line 6
and there the executing of the script is stopped, so it never comes to redirection. Does anyone know
why is the script execution stopped?
