Note that if you use PHP as a Module to a fairly recent version of Apache, this function does not
work. If you use PHP as a stand alone CGI or with an older version of Apache, it does. Details are
at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=14837 but there
seems to be a political issue over the bug. PHP developers see it as not a PHP bug, and Apache
developers see PHP as not part of Apache. Each side is waiting for the other to fix it, and
it's been like this for a long, long time.
