I have an up2date redhat 7.1 system, with all relevant MySQL packages installed from RPM. I have a
problem finding the header files also.
With a bit of trial and error:
./configure --with-mysql=/usr
Also make sure you DON'T have the php-mysql RPM installed, as it will conflict with the above.
