i am using IIS 5.0 + PHP 4.2.0 + MySQL 3.23.39 and i was having some error inserting form variables
to my database. here's a simple code that worked for me:

if (isset($HTTP_POST_VARS['submit'])) { include
('scripts/connect.inc');
$sql = "INSERT INTO cit_poll (answer) VALUES
('$HTTP_POST_VARS[poll_answer]')";
$result = mysql_query($sql);
} else {
//do nothing
}
?>
