Just a side note: sometimes compiling php with oracle support may produce odd results, such as not
having ora_logon function. be sure to use for ./configure BOTH of the following:
--with-oci8="/path/to/oracle" and --with-oracle="/path/to/oracle". If you forget
the latter, php will claim that it has oracle support, yet you won't get ora_logon [and I
presume other functions]
