concerning the buracco at yahoo dot com's problem, I found a dirty hack to make it work :
instead of
preg_replace($pattern, "\$1$replacement\$3" ,$subject)
use
preg_replace($pattern, "\$1\$99$replacement\$3" ,$subject)
Since there cannot be more than 99 backreferences, the numerical value of $replacement will be
treated on its own. Hope it helps...
