setlocale() doesn't work for italian on many systems (especially BSD-based OSes).
If you have no access to BSD's 'usr/share/locale/' , which is true of many providers
(even in Italy), then you have NO WAY to set the locale to italian.
Explicitly, setting locale to any of: 'it_IT', 'ita', 'italian' will
have no effect.
Remedy: you have to make your own custom functions to surrogate strftime(), localeconv() etc.
You also have to code your own date/currency/number formatting conversion routines.
