Note Submitter: Dhananjay Rokde dhanu1000@indiatimes.com ---- - Dhananjay Rokde. The Dumb ass's guide to apache under windows xp professional. I don't belive people are still having problems with installtion on XP. This tutorial is a sure-fire on windows XP professional edition. I have checked it out, on SP1 and also the security update. Interestingly, the internet explorer 6 browser requires you to have SP1 (for ie of course) installed. It is not all that necessary though, because it causes problems only in some circumstances. Be sure you check out the microsoft internet explorer 6, release notes (also for SP1 of the same). Here goes- ###Setting up Httpd.conf Dont insert what's inside the ( ), that's for your reference only. Step (1) Find the line : ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "C:/Apache2/cgi-bin/" Go to the line under it and insert: ScriptAlias /php/ "C:/apache2/php/" (what this does is tell the server where the php folder is) Step (2) Now find the lines: # Format: Action handler-name /cgi-script/location # Go to the line following it and insert this: Action application/x-httpd-php /php/php.exe (What this does is tell the server where the php program is) Step(3) Now find the lines: # AddType allows you to add to or override the MIME configuration # file mime.types for specific file types # AddType application/x-tar .tgz Go to the line following it and insert these lines: AddType application/x-httpd-php .php AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3 AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps (what this does is like the extensions on files) Step(4)Now, look for <IfModule mod_mime_magic.c> MIMEMagicFile conf/magic </IfModule> Now add this below: <IfModule mod_dir.c> DirectoryIndex index.html index.php default.php main.php </IfModule> (What that does is when you go to a folder, it will go to one of thoes files) Please translate my email id, and mail me in case it still does not work. As again, support PHP and apache by putting their stickers on your website (obvioulsy, link it to them).
