in php versions < 4.2.2 (just tested with 4.2.2 and 4.1) unset() doesn't unset $_SESSION
entries.
For Example, the line:
unset($_SESSION['session_var']);
WON'T unset or unregister session_var from the current Session. You still have to use
session_unregister even though you didn't used the session_register() function to register it
to the session.
hope this helps someone.
