For enctype="multipart/form-data" submissions, the value of string variables (at least)
may have a spurious initial new line, which I suspect originates from the blank line in the actual
layout of this encoding type (take a look at the w3c specs for details).
To remove this stray debris, a simple:
$my_form_var = ltrim($my_form_var);
should do it.
